Ohio State Mascot Goes Viral for Clever Stunt During Michigan Game

Key Points:

  • Ohio State’s mascot went viral
  • Ohio State led Michigan late
  • Brutus Buckeye used snow to make his point

The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes battled it out in ‘The Game’ Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan with the Buckeyes taking a 27-9 lead down the stretch.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the game but it was erased by a controversial Jeremiah Smith touchdown that opened up the floodgates.

Michigan trailed late as injured stars Jordan Marshall, Max Bredeson, Justice Haynes and others watched from the sidelines.

The malaise gave OSU mascot Brutus Buckeye a chance to show his disrespect for the Maize and Blue.

Brutus Buckeye Brings Columbus Tradition to Ann Arbor

The Buckeyes’ venerable mascot irked Michigan fans while delighting the Buckeye faithful with his late game stunt.

He brought a Columbus, Ohio tradition to the Wolverine State as he ‘X’d out’ the letter M in Michigan’s end zone.

No one stopped the Buckeyes mascot as he created a memorable moment during what looked like it would end up as a favorable result for coach Ryan Day’s visiting team.

“This is why Brutus Buckeye is #1!” another fan said.

A large contingent of Buckeyes fans clad in scarlet were noticeable throughout the day, including before the game as Brutus prepared for his usual hijinx and hilarity.

Fans React to Brutus End Zone Stunt

Fans reacted to the Brutus end zone stunt in a variety of ways.

“Coming from a fanbase that cried about a flag being stuck on their field,” one person said.

“B1G Mascot of the Week?” another mused.

“All heroes don’t wear capes!” another exclaimed.

“@Brutus_Buckeye for the win!” another said.

“The meltdown OSU would have if we crossed out an O on their field,” another said.

“Such hypocrites.”

The Buckeyes’ running attack kept Michigan’s offense off the field for much of the game as injuries took their toll on the Wolverines’ Chip Lindsey led unit.

Michigan freshman QB Bryce Underwood was largely ineffective while Buckeyes Heisman Trophy contender Julian Sayin was on target for most of the game.

The Buckeyes took a time out with just over four minutes remaining in the game as they prepared to go for it on fourth down nursing a 27-9 lead and preparing to punch their ticket to the Big Ten Championship Game vs. the Indiana Hoosiers.
