It could be seen as some kind of symbolic commentary on Oklahoma’s fifth season under Porter Moser, considering a recent nine-game losing streak and a few notable meltdowns along the way.

Or maybe the fire in the main concourse at OU’s Lloyd Noble Center, originating in a popcorn machine and delaying Saturday’s game against Georgia 4 minutes before it was extinguished, spoke to a newfound passion for Oklahoma. It did happen on Valentine’s Day. And the Sooners (13-12, 3-9 SEC) came out and played with purpose against a team currently projected in the NCAA Tournament field — earning a second win in a row, 94-78, as Moser chases his second NCAA bid in five seasons.

Most importantly, no one was injured. And the SEC Network broadcasting team of Kevin Fitzgerald and Rodney Terry had some fun with the moment.

“Oh my goodness, we’ve got a full-blown fire going on right now,” Terry said, interrupting Fitzgerald talking about OU’s huge win at Vanderbilt a week earlier to break the streak.

“A popcorn machine it looks like,” Fitzgerald said. “You can see the sprinkler overhead system is working. … Goodness gracious.”

Terry: “We literally had the roof on fire. The roof is on fire.”

Terry, by the way, won on the same court last season as the head coach of Texas, though that and an NCAA Tournament bid was not enough to prevent Texas from firing him after his third season.
