Ole Miss Reportedly Makes Coaching Decision After Lane Kiffin Departure

The Ole Miss Rebels and LSU Tigers have been the talk of college football all weekend. The biggest question mark is the status of current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

On Saturday, Kiffin did not decide his future, but Ole Miss scheduled a team meeting for Sunday morning.

On3 reported that Kiffin intended to go to LSU, but the big holdup was his wanting to stay at Ole Miss through the College Football Playoff while also threatening to poach the roster and coaching staff at the same time.

At this point, Kiffin seems headed to LSU to be the next head coach in Baton Rouge.

That means Ole Miss will need an interim head coach to navigate the College Football Playoff run.

According to Chris Low of On3, Ole Miss has decided on the interim coach, with everything pointing to Kiffin going to LSU.

“Defensive coordinator Pete Golding is expected to remain at Ole Miss and will coach the Rebels in the playoff. Golding could also be a candidate to replace Kiffin as Ole Miss’ head coach.”

Previously, it was reported that Joe Judge, the former New York Giants head coach, would be the Ole Miss interim, but now Low reports it is going to be Golding.

Golding has been the Ole Miss defensive coordinator since 2023, and before that, he was the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator at Alabama for five seasons.

So, Golding has worked under Nick Saban and Kiffin, and he is also a candidate to be the full-time head coach at Ole Miss with Kiffin’s departure.
