Coming off of the exhilarating high of clinching a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, three of Team USA’s brightest stars found their victory lap to be at least momentarily interrupted by an unexpected interjection. Speaking during a recent appearance at Fanatics Fest for Boardroom Talks, Edwards shared how he – along with fellow NBA teammates Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry – had to take a post-game drug test right after their win over France in the Olympic final. While this certainly proved to be quite the killjoy, the trio’s truly dazzling performances on the court – particularly Curry’s jaw-dropping 24-point display – made sure that this win would prove far from forgettable.
Drug Test Dampens Celebratory Mood
After Team USA had won their big victory at the Paris Olympics, the stars’ celebration was brought to an unexpected halt because of drug tests. Anthony Edwards explained that he was celebrating with Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry when he was told there would be testing. Following the huge victory over France—where Curry’s sparkling display led the team with 24 points—the players were forced to pause the celebration.
Edwards was quick to quip about them having to take drug tests right after the game, which took from the immediate post-game celebrations. Durant, too, quipped at the necessity of the test, touting Curry’s performance way above ordinary, thus in turn justifying the test. This unscheduled interruption did little to dampen the spirits of the team, even though it kept their celebratory plans on the backburner.
Victory Lap Continues Amidst Testing
Even in the brief moment of distress with drug tests, Team USA stars beamed in victory from the Olympics. Edwards, Durant, and Curry were in a celebratory mood while reveling in their hard-won win over France. The light-hearted comments that Edwards made about the drugs test added some humor to the matter at hand, indicative of their relaxed attitude towards the disruption.
Durant, coming off a breakout game the night previous against Serbia, all but giggled at the process; emcee Jalen Rose cracked wise about Curry’s workout. The drug tests proved a nuisance, but not enough to harsh too much of a mellow of the team’s celebration of their Olympic success.
