Virat Kohli, who is known to be a prominent Indian cricketer and star batter, had an off day in terms of scoring runs in international cricket. He managed to score just 23 runs in the recently finished first Test match against Bangladesh, which was played at Chennai. In both innings of the Test, Kohli had a dismal performance and scored 6 and 17 respectively. While in the first inning he attempted to play an off-stump delivery by the fast bowler Hasan Mahmud and was caught out, Kohli was bowled out by spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz by LBW. A fan brought up the issues faced by Kohli during the Chennai Test and asked Dinesh Karthik whether it meant that Kohli needed to improve his batting technique to which the former Indian cricketer boldly responded.
“But we were all very eager to see what Test cricket will be like in the return of Kohli. He is a beast, but is it the case that some series like this comes as a wake-up call for him to be able to work on a few issues?” The fans posed the question to the former wicketkeeper batter on Cricbuzz.
Karthik replied: “Why? Two innings, he has gotten out, sir? Two innings? It’s Vital Kohli, he is perfectly fine. One Test does not bother to change anything in his life. He is a champion. Big matches, who do you want? Virat Kohli! He is the king.”
From the year 2021 in the Test format, as for Kohli, he has registered 499 runs in 1094 balls. He has been out 18 times during this time period. He has scored in the range of 27.72 and a strike rate of 45.61.
This year, overall, Virat is undergoing a slump in form in all formats of the game. In 15 games and 17 innings in the year 2024, he has been able to make only 319 runs at a disappointing average of 18.76 with just one fifty to his name and the highest score being 76 which he made against south Africa in a T20 world cup final.
As per the Test format, Virat’s batting average is at an all-time low, in the last eight years. He has played 114 Tests and has made 8871 runs in 193 innings and has an average of 48.74 with 29 tons and 30 half-centuries. His average was lower than this the last time November 2016 when he had an average of 48.28
