Abhishek Sharma opened for India in the first T20I against Bangladesh played in Gwalior on Sunday (October 6) but could not build on his good start. He went back to his dressing room after scoring 16 runs off 7 balls for the Suryakumar Yadav’s team in the chase of 128 runs. A single was the last ball attempt for the 24-year-old left-handed batsman, but he was run out by Towhid Hridoy at the non-striker’s end.
The Indian veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has expressed his displeasure on social media over the way Abhishek was dismissed in the first T20I against Bangladesh and advised the young cricketer. Yuvraj, in his comment on Abhishek’s post that said “Can feel a big one coming” said “only if we use our brains”
Abhishek, who is very much close to Yuvraj, was also an U-19 World Cup winning player in 2018 under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw. Further, Yuvraj, who is the reason behind Sunrisers Hyderabad batter’s success, has been a great support to the player in many ways over the recent years.
Making his first appearance in international T20s in Harare on July 6, 2024, Abhishek played for India against Zimbabwe. He did not score in the opening match of the series, but he blazed away with a century in the next game held at the same place on July 7. The cricketer from Amritsar, India, played in all five of the India-Zimbabwe T20I series but was excluded from the T20I series against India and Sri Lanka held that same month.
Having beaten Bangladesh rather easily by seven wickets in the first match of the series, India would also wish to keep up the brilliance in the second T20I match, which is set to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday, October 9. Given that the second T20I will be held, this will give India a chance to emerge victorious in the series against the Najmul Hossain Shanto led team. Nonetheless, it will be difficult for India to defeat Bangladesh in Delhi.
The memories were very fond regarding the games played in Delhi. The visitors to the Indian soil bagged their only T20I win over India at this very ground in November of the year 2019.
