Basque bike brand, Orbea, has launched its new Kimu bike range, designed specifically for kids.
In Basque, “Kimu” means “shoot” or “bud,” a symbol of new beginnings. It represents the very first spark, the start of a lifelong journey on two wheels. Just like our adult range, Kimu reflects Orbea’s core product values: customization, quality, and high value.
Kimu doesn’t aim to just take kids from place to place, it helps them fall in love with riding, explore the world around them, and start writing their own cycling story. From those first wobbly glides to the thrill of bigger adventures, Kimu applies the same values at every stage, adapting to rider growth and providing the support they need.
Kimu is built around three pillars: confidence-inspiring riding, purpose-built design and durability that lasts.
Confidence-Inspiring Riding
Every detail of Kimu has been designed to deliver safety and control from the very beginning. The geometry, lightweight frame and carefully selected components work together to create a fun riding experience that encourages independence from day one.
Specifically Designed
The Kimu range is designed specifically for kids. It offers adapted ergonomics, lightweight components and geometry tailored to a natural riding position. Smaller-diameter handlebars, grips sized for small hands, short cranks and dedicated saddles reflect the care placed into every detail.
Built to Last
Kimu inherits Orbea’s reputation for quality and durability. It is ready to withstand the knocks and falls that come with childhood. Its robust construction and reliable components ensure it’s not just a bike for today, but one that can be passed down and spark new adventures for the next rider. In addition, Kimu evolves alongside growing skills and ambition.
From first pedal strokes to greater independence, Kimu offers two categories tailored to each age, size and stage: Learning and Development.

Kimu 16: Learning
Kimu 16 supports riders aged 3 to 6 as they take their first steps into a new world. It begins as a balance bike and, once stability is mastered, riders can learn to use the brakes thanks to dedicated brake levers.
Once movement and braking are under control, the bike easily transforms into a pedal bike through an innovative Orbea solution. What initially serve as foot supports convert into cranks and pedals.
This allows skills to be learned progressively, building confidence without the need for training wheels. Kimu 16 also incorporates a stabilizer, an elastic band running from the frame to the fork, that prevents excessive handlebar rotation while helping it return smoothly to center.
Durability is a key feature of the range. For that reason, Kimu 16 includes a second, longer seatpost to extend the usable life of the bike.
Kimu 16 is customizable: it comes with pre-installed protectors ready to be decorated with stickers that unleash creativity. In addition, the bike includes a name plate where riders can write their name, creating a fun bond with their new companion.

Kimu 20, 24 and 27: Development
As kids grow, Kimu evolves and adapts with them. Orbea offers three versions within the
Development category, featuring three different wheel sizes (20”, 24” and 27”) targeted to specific age ranges:
- Kimu 20: 5 to 8 years
- Kimu 24: 7 to 10 years
- Kimu 27: 9 to 12 years
Within each model, build options are carefully selected to deliver distinct characteristics at specific price points:
- Kimu 20 H10 and Kimu 24 H10 focus on maximum lightness with premium components.
- Kimu 20 H20 and Kimu 24 H20 strike the balance between fun and performance, offering the ideal package for skill development thanks to their aluminum fork and stable handling.
- Kimu 24 H10 TR, Kimu 27 H10 and Kimu 27 H20 open the door to trail riding with MTB components such as suspension forks and dropper posts.
Every detail is designed specifically for this stage of life. From the outset, weight is a key focus, achieving a low bike-to-rider weight ratio for easy handling. Specific components ensure natural control: short cranks, adapted grips and saddles, and short-throw shifters that make learning to use gears intuitive. All models feature hydraulic disc brakes for safe and effortless braking.
All these bikes are based on the Big Wheel concept: wheels are proportionally larger — just like 29” wheels on adult bikes — providing greater inertia and stability, helping maintain speed smoothly and confidently. The larger diameter improves traction and encourages skill development on more technical terrain.
Aluminum frames, internal cable routing and dedicated protectors keep the bike quiet and in excellent condition despite heavy use. Short rear derailleurs remain well protected while allowing enough clearance to avoid impacts with curbs or rocks. In addition, all Kimu models in this category incorporate a revolutionary stem that grows with the rider, ensuring optimal fit throughout the bike’s lifespan.
All Kimu models are customizable. They include two sets of interchangeable protectors with dedicated designs. In addition, Kimu 20, like Kimu 16, comes with stickers to personalize the bike along with a name plate to make it truly their own.
The entire Kimu range is now available through Orbea’s dealer network and on orbea.com.
