Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis has been rumored for some time, but Ortiz’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has released a social media video discussing Ortiz’s options away from Ennis, while confirming that Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia is close to being announced.
The boxing world has craved for Ortiz-Ennis, but it doesn’t seem to be any closer. Eddie Hearn recently asked in an interview with Fight Hub TV, “Who else is there for Ortiz to fight?” It remains to be seen if the fight can be made, but with De La Hoya talking about options, it doesn’t look promising.
Oscar De La Hoya discusses other options for Vergil Ortiz Jr
Discussing the latest on Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis, the Golden Boy promoter said:
“In the meantime, Eddie Hearn is begging the media for this Boots and Vergil Ortiz fight. It’s so stupid as a promoter to pigeonhole your fighter into one opponent. You lose your negotiating power, which ends up being a lot of lost money for your fighter.
“Also, every time a manager tries to be a hero and negotiate behind the promoter’s back, they lose money for the fighter, and at the same time, violate the Muhammad Ali Act. And you know what? I’m gonna start sending legal letters enforcing this because I’m f***ing tired of it. Some managers are just full of s**t.
“And I will be exposing them, trust me. Look, Vergil can fight two or three different guys in mega fights. He’s got options. Imagine him with Errol Spence at Dallas Cowboys stadium. Or Sebastian Fundora in a mega fight in Vegas. Boots is part of the plan, but it doesn’t have to be next. But Eddie, since you’re so desperate to make this fight, then lets fo this.
“60-40 for Vergil, and 5% to the winner, because I’m generous, and I’m not moving off those numbers. You’re the one who’s begging for this fight. So, let’s go.”
Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia close to being finalised
Despite the difficulties in making Ortiz-Boots, Oscar De La Hoya did have a positive update regarding Barrios vs Garcia:
“Yo, what’s up, guys? Happy New Year, man. I’ve been busy this week, finalising the Ryan Garcia-Barrios fight, and details will be announced on Monday. I’m really excited to be working with PBC and Al-Haymon.
“Look, we have a lot of great matchups to be made, as the U.S. top promoter, so I’m looking to keep the fights here in the U.S,” said De La Hoya.
Will we see Ortiz vs Ennis, or is Oscar De La Hoya ducking the fight, keeping his fighter away from Boots? Hearing that Golden Boy and PBC have reached a deal for Barrios vs Garcia is great, but the boxing world is craving the news that Matchroom and Golden Boy have reached a deal for Ortiz vs Boots.
