The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2026 season with expectations of not only competing for a playoff spot, but a run at the Super Bowl. The 2025 season was derailed by injuries and inconsistent play in the second half of the season. Key injuries included Jordan Love missing time, Tucker Kraft and Micah Parsons suffering season ending injuries, and pro bowl offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins suffering an ankle fracture.
While the team is looking much different already, one linebacker is determined to show he can be a force in this league.
Packers’ Linebacker Barryn Sorrell Nearly Hits 22 mph During Workout
In a video shared on Instagram and Twitter, Packers’ second year linebacker Barryn Sorrell hits an insane mark on the treadmill:

Sorrell will have a real chance to make a name for himself this season. Rashan Gary (Dallas Cowboys) and Kingsley Enagbare (New York Jets) both left the team via trade or free agency this off-season. Additionally, it is likely that Micah Parsons will miss the first few weeks of the season while recovering from his torn ACL.
That leaves Lukas Van Ness as the clear EDGE1 and leaves the door open for whoever steps up next to him.
Who Is Barryn Sorrell And Where Is He From?
Sorrell spent all four years (2021-2024) of his college career playing for the Texas Longhorns. During that time he played in 49 career games, recorded 132 total tackles, 15.5 sacks, two pass deflections, and 1 forced fumble.
His best season came in 2024 (senior year) when he recorded 44 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 1 pass deflection, and played in all 16 games. His efforts led the Packers to select him in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Once he made it to the league, he made his debut in week two against the Washington Commanders (a game they won 27-18). In that he recorded 0.5 sacks and one tackle. His first start wouldn’t come until week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings (a game they lost 16-3). In that game he recorded eight tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
His final rookie numbers were:
- 14 appearances
- 15 total tackles
- 1.5 sacks
- 1 fumble recovery
- 3 quarterback hits
It is clear that he his god given talent is off the charts. Will he be able to put it all together on the football field? We just may find out in 2026.
