Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are going to do whatever it takes to take their team from playoff caliber to championship caliber in 2026. Three seasons in a row Green Bay has made the playoffs, however, all three years the team has failed to make it past the divisional round (twice eliminated in the wild card round).
Now, one recent hire for the offense could bring a new perspective.

The Green Bay Packers have made a strategic addition to Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff, hiring 36-year-old TC McCartney as an offensive assistant with a primary focus on supporting quarterback Jordan Love heading into the 2026 season. The move, first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, adds a young, experienced coach with deep ties to the quarterback position.
McCartney, a former LSU quarterback (2007–2010), brings a wealth of NFL coaching experience to the Packers. He has previously served as a quarterbacks coach and tight ends coach, most recently working with first-round pick Drake Maye as the Patriots’ QBs coach in 2024.
Although he was not retained by new head coach Mike Vrabel, Maye took a significant step forward in his second season, a development that speaks to McCartney’s ability to develop young talent.
Why TC McCartney Is a Strong Fit for Jordan Love and the Packers
Jordan Love enters 2026 as the undisputed starter after a strong finish to the 2025 season . Adding McCartney gives the Packers another voice in the quarterback room who understands the nuances of the Shanahan-style offense that LaFleur runs. McCartney’s background includes time under Kyle Shanahan with the Browns (2014) and 49ers (2015 and 2017), as well as roles with the Broncos (2019) and Browns under Kevin Stefanski (including tight ends coach from 2022–2023).
This hire also creates an internal connection: McCartney worked alongside current Packers defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington in New England in 2024. The familiarity could help McCartney integrate quickly into LaFleur’s staff.
Packers Continue Building Around Jordan Love in 2026
McCartney’s role as an offensive assistant will likely include working closely with the quarterbacks room, helping refine Love’s mechanics, decision-making, and ability to execute LaFleur’s complex playbook.
While the exact day-to-day responsibilities won’t be fully clear until the full coaching staff is finalized, this hire signals Green Bay’s commitment to maximizing Jordan Love’s potential in 2026 and beyond.
