Pakistan star receives show cause from PCB for questioning Babar Azam’s exclusion for 2nd England Test

He wasn’t happy with the calls taken and put out an elaborate post on X.

In a recent development coming in, a Pakistan cricketer has been issued with a show cause from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he put out a controversial statement on his social media handle on X (formerly Twitter) in regards to the squad announced for the Pakistan vs England second Test.

Notably, the PCB made a surprising decision to drop three of their biggest stars for the decisive clash – former skipper Babar Azam along with star pacers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi.

The decision came as shocking since Pakistan had already suffered a historic loss in the first Test and risk losing the series if they can’t churn out a win or a draw in the decisive second Test.

Fakhar Zaman however wasn’t happy with the calls taken, especially the decision to drop Babar and he put out an elaborate post on X.

Zaman had posted, “It is concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively. If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on safeguarding our key players rather than undermining them.”

Fakhar Zaman had been at loggerheads with PCB previously

Zaman has now been given seven days to clarify his stance to the PCB.

This development could deepen the rift between Zaman and the board. Just last month, he expressed his dissatisfaction to PCB chair Mohsin Naqvi regarding his treatment by a PCB director.

According to reports, Zaman raised concerns about Usman Wahla, PCB’s director of international cricket operations, for delaying the issuance of NOCs for him and other players to participate in T20 leagues globally.
