Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood’s self-respect gets questioned by media

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood had to endure an awkward moment while addressing the media recently following a controversial query from a journalist. This was the first time that Masood was interacting with the media since getting retained as Pakistan skipper despite the recently humiliating series defeat to Bangladesh at home.

A clip of his interaction with he media is going viral. In the video, a reporter can be seen asking whether Masood himself has thought about quitting the captaincy due to the string of defeats that Pakistan has suffered in Test cricket.

“(Aapne bola jub tak woh mauka de rahe hain, avail karenge. Kabhi khud say koi khuddari nahi aati ki ‘yaar haar gaye, performance nahi ho rahi, chod ke chale jayein?) You said till PCB gives chances you will avail them. Don’t you have the self-respect to call it quits since the team is losing and not able to perform?” Masood was asked by the reporter.

After listening to the question, Masood first exchanged a look with the media manager before ignoring the question altogether.

Then, after the press-conference ended, the media manager thanked the reporters for coming, but also asked them to show respect towards the Pakistan captain.

“Pakistan ka captain baitha hai, aap bilkul sawal karein but please show respect and particularly I am referring Javed. It was not the appropriate way of asking Pakistan captain the question that you asked,” the media manager said.

Masood is yet to record a Test victory as captain of the Pakistan team. Under his leadership, the Men in Green have lost all 5 Tests since he took over from Babar Azam.
