Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt makes a big claim on Champions Trophy 2025. He also says there is no comparison from T20 World Cup 2024. Butt believes that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be a major success, especially since it will be held in Pakistan, where cricket is extremely popular. He predicts that the tournament will surpass the recently finished 2024 T20 World Cup. This tournament was jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
The T20 World Cup 2024 tournament started on 1 June, 2024 and ended with a victory for team India on 29 June. The 2024 T20 World Cup did not generate much excitement among local fans in the USA. Ironically, Pakistan left the tournament in the group stage itself. The team lost to India and USA.
What Salman Butt said
In his latest YouTube video, Butt suggested that the situation will be very different when an ICC event takes place in Pakistan.
“There’s no comparison of this event to the United States of America or any other such country. This will surely be a more successful event than the T20 World Cup.” Salman said.
“The pitches weren’t up to the mark over there, the stadiums were too far, and the hotels were somewhere else. No locals knew what was happening in their cities, just the overseas people staying there knew about cricket.” He added.
Reports indicate that the ICC faced significant financial losses from hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA. According to PTI (via NDTV), the apex council incurred losses of about $20 million (approximately ₹167 crore).
“Be it in India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh..” Salman on craze for cricket
Salman Butt emphasized that ICC events in countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are always successful due to passionate fans. He noted that, unlike the extensive travel required during the 2024 T20 World Cup, teams in Pakistan will have presidential security. This would reduc their travel time significantly.
“When such a trophy comes to this part of the world, be it in India, Pakistan, or Bangladesh, the love and respect that the players will receive will be totally different. Also, the teams won’t have to travel for hours. Everything will be sealed and it will take just six minutes for the team to reach the stadium. This is presidential security, such a feel can never be there in USA.” He added in the same video.
