Prasidh Krishna, an Indian bowler, is the most recent addition to the long list of players expected to miss the Duleep Trophy’s early rounds. The right-arm speedster has been ruled out of the domestic red-ball competition’s opening match due to his inability to fully recover from surgery performed in February.
Krishna and many other players injured before Duleep Trophy
In February, Prasidh Krishna had surgery to repair damage to his left proximal quadriceps tendon. Consequently, he was not allowed to play for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. The pacer was selected by the eventual winners, Mysuru Warriors, in the player auction back in July, and was anticipated to return for the just concluded Karnataka Premier League (KPL).Â
On the day of their match against Team B, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, the captain of Team A in the Duleep Trophy, announced that Prasidh Krishna would not be participating. Several players from the original Duleep Trophy squad list, including Prasidh Krishna, will not compete in the first round at the very least.
Ishan Kishan was recently ruled out because of what appears to be an injury worry, and Suryakumar Yadav is in the same boat. Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik, the pace bowling tandem, are recuperating from their wounds, and the BCCI has also pulled Ravindra Jadeja.
The injury has left him with very few matches despite being a good player
Prasidh Krishna was last observed on the field during Karnataka vs. Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy match in January of this year. Karnataka lost by six runs after failing to chase 108 in the last innings, with him finishing with figures of 2-62. Along with the Indian team that toured South Africa, the pacer claimed two wickets in that tour. Additionally, he participated in most of the home T201 series against Australia that followed the 2023 ODI World Cup.
In 2019 and 2022, Prasidh Krishna suffered stress fractures to his left leg and back, respectively. The latter fracture prevented him from participating in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). In the few times he has been fit, he has only participated in a small number of games and is gradually losing ground to bowlers like Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar in the national lineup.
