FOXBORO — Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who’s dealing with an injury to his right throwing shoulder, was not present for the start of Friday’s practice.
Maye was a limited participant in Thursday’s session. He was projected as being limited Wednesday, as well, when the Patriots did not practice.
The Patriots play the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX in nine days. Maye said Thursday that he intends to play in the game.
Head coach Mike Vrabel said Thursday that Maye injured his right throwing shoulder in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game win over the Broncos. When asked Thursday about his level of concern about Maye’s shoulder injury, Vrabel replied, “not much.”
Vrabel will address the media again Friday.
The QB took a hard hit from Broncos safety Talanoa Hufanga in the third quarter of Sunday’s 10-7 win. Maye stayed in the game.
“I try not to have a whole lot of concern,” Vrabel said Thursday when asked about Maye’s injury. “I just want to try to prepare the football team, make sure that everybody’s ready, that we all have a plan, not to surprise anybody and make sure that our guys are focusing on the first and second down plan. We’ve tried to map out the week here, week and a half, and not look at the end of it, but focus on what we can do today. Try to learn our opponent and be ready for first and second down.”
Backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs and third-stringer Tommy DeVito were the only quarterbacks spotted at practice.
Linebacker Robert Spillane, outside linebacker Harold Landry III and offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. were also not spotted at practice.
Maye has not missed a game this season. This week is the first time he’s even been listed on the injury report.
“I’ll do whatever I can to feel 100%, and I’m sure I’ll get, if not there, as close as I can or 99 or do whatever I can to make sure I’m throwing and do whatever I can to help the team win,” Maye said Thursday.
Maye wasn’t spotted passing the ball at Thursday’s practice but said after the session that he had done some throwing.
“Yeah, we went through a normal practice,” Maye said. “Did some reps and did some things where I’m looking forward to trying to get some more reps here and there and feel it out.”
