In addition to being Bangladesh’s first Test victory over Pakistan in 14 tries, this loss at Rawalpindi highlighted Pakistan’s continuous struggles in the lengthier format.
Naqvi stated on Monday, “It was a very disappointing loss.” Pakistan has not defeated South Africa in a Test match played there since December 2021. Since then, the squad has played five home Test matches with five losses and four draws, which has raised questions about their performance.
A crucial problem with player selection was pointed out by Naqui. The PCB chief was quoted by the AP as saying, “The issue is the selection committee has no pool to turn to for high-quality replacement players.” His remarks point to a serious issue with player selection and development.
Naqui emphasized that a complete team revamp was necessary after Pakistan was eliminated early from the T20 World Cup Super Eight stage by defeat at the hands of India and the United States.
“Our goal is to address our issues,” Naqvi clarified. “But when we look at how to resolve them, we don’t have any solid data or [elite] players pool which we can draw from.”
In order to produce a stronger, more dependable pool of players capable of delivering regular results at the international level, Naqui’s comments underscore the urgent need for structural changes within Pakistani cricket.
