PCB Denies Rescheduling for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has categorically dismissed rumors regarding the potential rescheduling of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, following comments made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi about ongoing stadium renovations. The board issued a statement to clarify its position and reassure fans that the tournament will proceed as planned.

Renovation Plans for Iconic Venues

As part of preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy, the PCB has initiated extensive renovations at three key venues: the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium, and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The PCB has allocated Rs12.8 billion for these upgrades, aiming to bring the facilities up to international standards.

During a press conference reviewing the work at Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi highlighted the significant gap between international stadiums and those in Pakistan. He stated, “There’s a huge difference in international stadiums and those of ours […] none of our stadiums are of international standard.” Naqvi assured fans that the ongoing renovations are a priority, emphasizing that the PCB is committed to having the stadiums ready for the Champions Trophy.

Following Naqvi’s remarks, the PCB felt it necessary to address media reports that misinterpreted his statements regarding the tournament’s schedule. The board expressed disappointment over the sensationalism created by certain outlets, which suggested that security concerns might lead to a change in match dates.

In their statement, the PCB clarified, “It is disappointing that certain media outlets have misrepresented PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi’s comments from yesterday’s media interaction, misleadingly quoting him on the possibility of change of dates for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to security concerns, thus creating unnecessary sensationalism.”

Commitment to a World-Class Event

The PCB reiterated its commitment to hosting a world-class ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at three of Pakistan’s iconic venues. The board has already submitted a draft schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC), with the proposed dates for the tournament set from February 19 to March 9, 2025. The PCB aims to deliver an unforgettable experience for cricket fans during this prestigious event.

While the PCB is focused on the Champions Trophy, the ongoing construction work has necessitated adjustments to the domestic cricket calendar. Recently, the PCB announced that the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been shifted from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to the renovations at the National Stadium. This decision underscores the board’s commitment to ensuring that the stadiums are ready for the upcoming international event.
