PCB drops a massive bombshell on Jason Gillespie’s future with Pakistan cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board has put to rest all concerns surrounding the possible resignation of Test head coach Jason Gillespie by releasing a statement, stating that ‘he will continue coaching the Pakistan team in the two red ball games against South Africa. This clarification was needed as many press groups had announced the sacking of Gillespie and even suggested Aaqib Javed, the former pace bowler and a member of the PCB selection committee as his replacement in all formats. “The story is categorically dismissed by PCB. Jason Gillespie will still coach the Pakistan side in the two red-ball matches against South Africa as was earlier stated,” the statement posted on X said.

Prior to the current tour of Australia, Gillespie assumed additional responsibilities for the white-ball team following the resignation of head coach Gary Kirsten and creating a major gap in the coaching hierarchy of the team.

Kirsten’s departure from the PCB earlier this month was due to reports emanating from the board of multiple disagreements. Without a doubt, he did not want to stay in Pakistan throughout the time stated in the contract, and rather come to the team just before series or tours. Moreover, this even during and after the schedule of the Champions Cup, was not the case with Kirsten in spite of the warning of the requirements of the contract that one had to be available for 11 months of the year in other engagements.

Succeeding white-ball matches against Zimbabwe- three ODIs and three T20Is- will be held from 24th November to 5th December in an action-packed cricket calendar for Pakistan next year. The next two months will see the start of a series with South Africa which will include all formats: three T20 matches, three One Day Internationals, and two Test Matches from December 10 to January 7.
