The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy, has allowed a sum close to 17 billion rupees for the improvement of its stadiums located in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Meetings were held to approve funds on Saturday last week at Lahore where the PCB Board of Governors convened; during the meeting it was resolved that another 240 million rupees should be used exclusively for women’s cricket.
The last budget approved 70 million rupees as a massive jump for women’s cricket which PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also disclosed to the BOG members. Our head informed them that the Champions Trophy is going to run fully within our borders before we discuss it more during the next ICC’s annual board meeting to take place in Colombo this month.
The meeting’s main purpose was to approve the 2024-25 PCB budget, what with Pakistan being the hosts of Bangladesh, England and West Indies before the season’s Tri Series coming a few months before the CT as well as visiting Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. For the improvement of facilities for the members of the public and upgrading the stadiums, Naqvi should notify each and every member of the Board that the work has started toward the upgrading of the stadiums.
Development funds amounting to almost 13 billion were sanctioned by the Board of Governors (BOG) for the construction of three stadiums. The domestic season organizing activities would also receive 4.5 billion rupees. In addition the Board was informed that central contract payment had been enhanced for female cricketers and players involved in domestic tournaments.
“The budget has been increased because the PCB wants to improve competition level and the structures in both domestic and women’s cricket,” Naqvi told the BOG.
