Pedaling Forward: A Giving Tuesday Message From Momentum Magazine

Pedaling Forward: A Giving Tuesday Message From Momentum Magazine

For more than 20 years, Momentum has been telling the stories that help shape better cities — one bike ride at a time. And in 2026, we’ll be celebrating a milestone that feels both surreal and deeply gratifying: our 25th anniversary.

Momentum began in Vancouver in the early 2000s as a small, spirited print magazine built on a simple belief — that everyday cycling could transform urban life. Long before “complete streets,” e-bikes, slow streets, or protected lanes were part of mainstream transportation conversations, Momentum was already there: uplifting the people who ride, spotlighting innovations in bike-friendly design, and celebrating the joy and practicality of moving through a city on two wheels.

For years, our print magazine was mailed to subscribers and stacked on café counters, bike shop shelves, community centres, and campuses across North America. It built a passionate community of readers who finally saw themselves reflected in a cycling publication. Not racers. Not gear obsessives. But people who wanted to live smartly, sustainably, and joyfully by bicycle.

Though the print magazine eventually closed, that spark never went out. Momentum adapted, shifted online, and carried forward with the same mission and the same lens: cycling as a lifestyle, as a tool for better cities, and as a gateway to community.

And now, as we approach our 25th year, we’re dreaming bigger than ever.

Momentum has always been a small, independent operation — driven by passion, powered by community, and kept alive by people who believe in the future of urban cycling. But the next chapter is one we’re determined to grow.

In 2026, we plan to expand Momentum into a more dynamic multimedia platform, with:

🎥 A stronger YouTube presence
More explainers, city-by-city ride-throughs, infrastructure breakdowns, and personal stories from everyday riders.

🎙️ A new podcast dedicated to cycling in cities
Weekly conversations with planners, thinkers, advocates, and the riders reshaping transportation culture.

🌍 Shining a light on the global cycling community
We want to celebrate bike advocates, grassroots organizers, and urban cycling communities across North America and beyond. Sharing knowledge, bringing communities together, and amplifying the stories of those making cities better — one ride at a time — will be at the heart of what we do.

It feels fitting that in the year we turn 25 — a major anniversary for any independent publication — we’re preparing to evolve in our biggest way since our earliest Vancouver days.

But to make it happen, we need support from the community that has carried us this far.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting our readers, supporters, and longtime Momentum friends to help us build the next evolution of independent cycling media. Becoming a Patreon supporter — at any amount — fuels the work we do and helps us produce more stories, more multimedia, and more opportunities to connect urban cyclists and advocates around the world.

If Momentum has inspired you over the years…
If you’ve read an article that nudged you onto a bike…
If our storytelling has helped you feel part of something bigger…
If you want independent cycling media to not just survive, but grow…

We’d be honoured if you’d support us today.

A call for collaborators
Momentum thrives on connection. If you have ideas, skills, or time to contribute — whether it’s writing, photography, video, social media, or organizing community events — we’d love to hear from you. Everyone has a role to play in helping us build a stronger, more connected cycling community.

Supporting Momentum in other ways
If Patreon isn’t right for you, there are other ways to help. Donations of time, expertise, or resources, sharing our work with your network, or assisting in special projects all make a difference. Every bit of support keeps independent cycling media alive and growing.

Thank you for being part of our journey — from our print days in Vancouver to our digital future. Here’s to 25 years of Momentum… and to the next 25.
