Penta is officially WrestleMania-bound after surviving a wild fight with El Hijo del Vikingo to keep his Intercontinental Championship on AAA on FOX.
The title match carried major stakes, as the same championship is set to be defended again at WrestleMania. That made this feel like a must-win moment for the champion heading into the big show.
Vikingo came out with Dorian Roldan and quickly went after Penta’s knee, trying to slow him down early. He even tied Penta’s mask to the bottom rope at one point and kept attacking the injured leg while staying in control for long stretches.
Penta refused to stay down. He kept fighting back with big counters and power moves, even after taking heavy punishment that included a poisonrana on the ring apron and a shooting star press to the outside.
The ending turned chaotic when interference started to pile up. Dorian Roldan got involved but was thrown out by the referee. Vikingo tried to use the title belt, but Mini Vikingo suddenly showed up and stopped him, hitting Vikingo with the belt instead.
That mistake cost Vikingo everything. Penta took advantage of the distraction, hit a Mexican Destroyer, and scored the win to stay champion. With the victory, Penta keeps his momentum going and locks in his path to WrestleMania, where he will defend the Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match against Rey Mysterio, Je’Von Evans, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, and Rusev.
Do you think Penta can carry this momentum into WrestleMania, or will someone finally stop his run? Let us know what you think.
