Things went from hostile to historic in Mexico City — and Mercedes Moné just lost another championship.
During the main event of CMLL’s “The Night of the Amazonas” show on March 6 at Arena México, Persephone defeated Moné to capture the CMLL Women’s World Championship. The result shocked many fans, especially after Moné entered the match as the defending champion and one of the biggest international stars competing in CMLL.
Earlier in the night, Moné had already stirred up the Arena México crowd before the match even started. After entering the ring, she put on a lucha-style mask, turned toward the audience, and raised both middle fingers toward them. The reaction was immediate as fans inside the legendary venue loudly booed the champion before the main event even got underway.
That hostile atmosphere only intensified once the match began, with the crowd firmly behind Persephone as she attempted to dethrone Moné in front of her home audience.
By the end of the night, Persephone delivered the biggest win of her career by pinning Moné and capturing the CMLL Women’s World Championship. The victory marks a huge moment for Persephone, who had previously come up short against Moné in past encounters. This time, she finally stopped the “CEO” and brought the championship back to CMLL.
The loss is another major setback for Moné, who recently dropped the TBS Championship in AEW and now finds herself without the CMLL title as well. With the championship now back in CMLL’s hands, Persephone stands as the new face of the promotion’s women’s division.
