Report: Pete Alonso agrees to five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles
There’s been a ‘Polar Bear’ sighting in Baltimore.
Alonso joins the Orioles after spending seven years with the New York Mets, who drafted the Florida product in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. With the NL East squad, Alonso racked up five All-Star nominations, a Silver Slugger Award (2025), the NL Rookie of the Year (2019), and is a two-time Home Run Derby winner.
The right-handed bat is one of the top sluggers in the game, racking up 30+ home runs each season since his big league debut (outside of the condensed 2020 season), including a league-leading 53 home runs in 2019. Alonso has posted an OPS above .800 in six of those seven campaigns and boasts a career .857 OPS across 1008 games. Since 2019, only Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber have more home runs. For his career, Alonso owns a .253/.341/.516 slash line with 183 doubles, 264 home runs, and 712 RBIs.
BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Alonso leaves the Mets to make a loaded AL East even better.
Alonso also boasts a strong postseason track record, collecting five home runs and a .278/.429/.574 slash line with a 1.003 OPS across 16 games, spanning back to 2022. One of his most memorable knocks was against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2024 NL Wild Card, sending the Mets to the NLDS thanks to a three-run blast in the ninth inning off closer Devin Williams.
The Baltimore Orioles’ newest addition gives them one of the best lineups in the league. Alonso joins a group that includes Adley Rutschman, Samuel Basallo, Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Holliday, Jordan Westburg, Dylan Beavers, Taylor Ward, Colton Cowser, Tyler O’Neill, and Heston Kjerstad.
