Hot on the heels of his dominant display at the Qatar F1 Sprint, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri topped the timing sheets in the main qualifying session to secure pole position for Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix.

Championship leader Lando Norris led the way after the first round of quick laps in Q3, but he made a mistake on his final lap and had to abort it.

While Norris failed to improve on his final lap, Oscar Piastri found enough to outpace his team-mate by 0.108s to secure pole position for Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix.

Piastri grabbed his sixth pole of the season, and second in as many days, which was crucial to keep alive his hopes of winning a maiden world championship.

Max Verstappen felt seemingly better behind the wheel of his RB21, taking third on the grid. The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli took fourth and fifth for Mercedes, ahead of Isack Hadjar, who produced a superb lap to claim sixth for Racing Bulls.

Williams’ Carlos Sainz finished seventh ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, while Charles Leclerc suffered a big spin as he ended up 10th and slowest in Q3 in another woeful qualifying showing for Ferrari.
