The Indian team arrived back from Barbados earlier in the day after they were forced to spend a couple of days in the Caribbean due to a hurricane situation which saw air travel get banned for a few days in Barbados.
The T20 World Cup winners were given a warm welcome by fans who had gathered at the Delhi airport to catch a glimpse of their heroes. After celebrating with the fans, the team headed to the ITC Mauryas hotel before departing to PM Narendra Modi’s residence to have a meeting with him.
PM Modi also posted a congratulatory message for the Indian team on his social media handles. The message said that, “Today, 140 crore countrymen are feeling pride at your performance. In the sporting world, you’ve won a World Cup. But in every village, town and every street of India, you have won countless hearts. This tournament will be remembered for a special reason as well. You played against so many teams from so many countries but you went unbeaten to win the title. That’s not a small achievement,”
After meeting with PM Modi, the Indian team will be departing for Mumbai where they will be having a trophy parade at the Wankhede stadium.
