The T20 World Cup winners met Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi after they arrived from Barbados earlier on Thursday. The PM congratulated the team for their triumph.
The PM also asked several players about various aspects of the exciting final.
During the meeting that lasted more than an hour, Modi expressed happiness over India’s win and how the team fought back from crunch situations.
He asked Rohit Sharma how mud tastes like after the skipper was seen putting a piece of the turf in his mouth after the victory in the final. Virat Kohli had been in quite a poor form going into the final and the Prime Minister wanted to know what he was thinking going into the big game.
Axar Patel was asked how he felt when he was promoted with the team in trouble in the final. The Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya was asked about his overall performance and how he planned the last over in which the Proteas needed 16 runs to win.
The PM talked about Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning catch in the final over and asked him to relive those magical 7 seconds. Finally, Jasprit Bumrah was asked about what was going on in his mind when he stepped up to bowl his over with South Africa only needing 30 runs in as many deliveries.
