Popular circuit to undergo makeover in hope of F1 return

The Imola circuit is set to undergo a makeover in a modernisation that it hopes might enable a future return to the Formula 1 calendar.

The famed Italian track was banished from the F1 calendar this year, after a six-year stint on the calendar under the umbrella of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

It heralded a long-awaited, having been off the calendar since 2007, during which time it was given a number of updates and reprofiles.

But with space on the calendar becoming more coveted amid new countries and cities competing for a spot, the circuit was once again confined to history after the 2025 running.

The circuit’s axing drew condemnation from officials on behalf of the Imola municipality, who defiantly expressed hope of a potential comeback in the future.

Fresh features to the Imola Circuit will include a new hospitality venue sitated at Tosa

And new plans that are being implemented may see the circuit receive the boost it needs to make that comeback.

The paddock will be widened, along with the section that houses the medical centre, to ensure smoother logistical efforts for its hosting of the World Endurance Championship.

Areas surrounding the Tosa hairpin are also being updated. Firstly, the old house positioned on a grass verge set back from the apex of the corner has been demolished.

In its place comes ‘La Casa degli Eventi’, a hospitality venue that will enable views stretching from the exit of Tamburello to the hill climb towards the Piratella corner after Tosa.

The public road network around the Tosa area will also be changed, with new roundabouts as well as the introduction of a second lane – as well as a bicycle lane – on the bridge.

As well as the many different racing categories the circuits hosts already, there will also be music events in an area being dubbed the Music Park Arena, which is reputed to be able to double up as a fan zone for fans at races.
