A postmortem found that Albert John died of natural causes.
John, 62, of Kensington New Road, St Michael, presented at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday with several injuries and died later the same day.
Police say, the postmortem, which was completed on Tuesday by the Government pathologist, was one of the main components of the investigation.
When news of John’s death became public, there were claims of him being beaten at King Street, The City.
A Nation team went to the area earlier this week and spoke to some residents.
“When I heard about that, I was shocked. He wasn’t a violent person, so when I heard about that I was shocked,” Andy Callender said as he reflected on nearly two decades of friendship with John.
“Some men said they lost money and he took it up and found it, but I doubt he would do that, because if he would find money he would have come out in the open and said it,” he said.
Some residents said John would often be in the areas of Hunte’s Gap and Baxters Road and rest in the car park of the Charlton Chambers building in Whitepark Road, St Michael. They added he would climb the breadfruit trees in a nearby area, offering to sell them, and wash cars to earn money.
“I know Albert all my life, from the time he had locks all to the ground. He liked to talk, he liked to form convos. If you find a topic about something, he liked to get on it, because he lived in Sweden and other countries and he lived his life. He know life but other than that he’s a man, he’s out here, he does his work, car washing. He’s a man I give food to, and I give Albert at least seven to eight dollars every day,” one man said.
Head of the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness, Kemar Saffrey, called for further investigation.
