Charges Detailed

Jayawickrama faces three specific charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code:

Article 2.4.4 – Failure to Report Approach:

  • Jayawickrama is accused of not reporting to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, without unnecessary delay, details of an approach he received to engage in match-fixing in future international matches.

Article 2.4.4 – Failure to Report Approach Involving Another Player:

  • The player allegedly failed to report an approach in which he was asked to recruit another player on behalf of a corrupter to carry out fixing in the 2021 Lanka Premier League.

Article 2.4.7 – Obstruction of Investigation:

  • Jayawickrama is charged with obstructing the ICC’s investigation by deleting messages that contained details of the approaches and offers to engage in corrupt activities.

Joint Action by Sri Lanka Cricket and ICC

In line with Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the ICC Code, it has been agreed between Sri Lanka Cricket and the ICC that the ICC will take action on the charges related to the Lanka Premier League in conjunction with those related to international matches.

Response Period and Next Steps

Praveen Jayawickrama has been given a 14-day period, starting from August 6, 2024, to respond to the charges laid against him. During this period, he can contest the charges or accept them and the sanctions that follow.
