Premier League Champions Make Big Decision on Signing New Right-Back in January

Liverpool received a major blow earlier on Sunday after Conor Bradley was ruled out for the rest of the ongoing campaign with a knee injury. And, the Reds have reportedly arrived at a decision regarding potentially signing a right-back cover this month.

Liverpool To Wait for Star To Recover From Knee Injury

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are expected to have a relatively quiet January transfer window despite injuries to Bradley, Alexander Isak, and Giovanni Leoni. With Bradley set to return from his injury this summer, they are unwilling to make a short-term signing.

The Merseyside club, who lifted their 20th league title last May, feel they have considerable depth at right-back. In Bradley’s absence, recent signing Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez are set to deputize at right-back with Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones also as options.

Liverpool, who dished out over $560 million ahead of the 2025-26 season, are keen to save their cash until this summer. They are expected to focus on signing new centre-backs after the end of this campaign as Ibrahima Konate is on track to leave as a free agent this July.

Meanwhile, Bradley has a minimal chance of returning from his recent injury before the end of May this year. The 22-year-old has started 13 of his 21 appearances across competitions for the reigning Premier League champions this term, providing two assists so far.

Bundesliga Ace Reveals ‘Dream’ of Playing for Liverpool

During a recent interaction with fans on TikTok, Ivory Coast star and RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande was asked if he is interested in plying his trade at the Reds in the future.

The reported Manchester United transfer target replied, “Yes, I do. I want to play at Anfield and I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big fan of Liverpool… because my father’s dream is to see me play at Anfield. So, that’s my dream. You know… to fulfil my father’s dream is a dream for me too.”

However, RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer is unwilling to sell Diomande soon.

“It is our aim to keep players with us for longer than just one year, because otherwise you don’t achieve any continuity. There isn’t even any (other club) sitting in the passenger seat. Everyone is sitting in the back seat,” Schafer told Kicker.

Diomande, 19, is relishing an excellent debut campaign at Leipzig since leaving Leganes in July 2025. He has registered seven goals and four assists in 16 total matches for his side.
