Thomas Tuchel is set to make a number of changes to his England side as they host Japan on Tuesday night.

A much-changed Three Lions side were held to a 1-1 draw by Uruguay at Wembley on Friday evening, with James Garner handed his senior international debut and Harry Maguire recalled for his first appearance since September 2024.

Several players have been released from the squad since the 1-1 draw, while a number of others – including Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka – have withdrawn through injury.

Cole Palmer is one player who will hope to start against Japan, having impressed as a substitute on Friday.

In the meantime, though, it appears that one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs are plotting an audacious move to sign the playmaker.

As per TEAMtalk, Manchester United are ‘actively exploring’ a possible move to sign Palmer from Chelsea this summer.

The Englishman joined the Blues from Manchester City in a deal worth around £42.5 million back in 2023 and enjoyed an explosive debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer scored 25 goals and registered a further 15 assists across all competitions during his first term in London, before adding a combined 32 goals and assists to his tally the following season.

This season the playmaker has struggled with injuries and a dip in form, although he has reached double figures in terms of goals.

Despite being a product of Man City’s academy, Palmer is a boyhood Manchester United fan and the report claims that the Red Devils are aiming to bring him back to the North West.

Palmer’s contract with the Blues has more than seven years remaining on it, though, and the England international will therefore likely cost a huge amount if Chelsea are willing to consider a sale.

The player’s representatives are said to have been working to sound out interest from other top clubs, the report claims, which could suggest that a move during this summer’s transfer window is on the cards.
