Primus’ pain Royals’ gain

The Barbados Royals began the home leg of their 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign with a ten-run victory over the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method at Kensington Oval on Wednesday night.

In front of an appreciative crowd of about 4 500 spectators, a Barbadian inadvertently contributed heavily to the win for the Royals, in a manner few would have expected.

The “Biggest Party in Sport” largely failed to live up to its name at the newly refurbished “Mecca” of cricket, as momentum swung repeatedly between the hosts and the visitors, often due to high-profile errors. However, the match dramatically came to life when Roshon Primus took his mark to begin the fateful 12th over.

At 81-2 after 11 overs, the Royals needed 96 runs from the remaining 54 balls. However, the 29-year-old fast-medium bowler delivered a wayward over worth 23 runs, losing his radar with four wides and three waist-high full-toss no-balls.
