The Proteas completed an emphatic victory in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka, beating the visitors by 233 runs.
It took 3 and a half days for the Proteas to clinch a victory against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Durban.
Starting the day on 103-5, Sri Lanka fought hard to stay in the game despite losing a wicket in the first session.Â
Dhananjaya de Silva was the only wicket to fall before lunch, chipping a delivery from Keshav Maharaj to short midwicket.Â
Dinesh Chandimal batted smartly to take Sri Lanka into lunch with 220 on the board, the visitors needing 296 runs to win.Â
A wicket from Gerald Coetzee changed the game.Â
Dinesh Chandimal, who scored 83, kept his side in the game. But in the 74th over he lob-flicked a Coetzee delivery back to the bowler.Â
Sri Lanka were now there for the taking.Â
Jansen went on to take 4-73 which included the prized wicket of Kusal Mendis (43) in the 78th over.Â
He finished with career best match figures of 11-86.Â
This is now the best bowling figures in Durban.Â
The Proteas dismissed the visitors for 282, with all the bowlers playing a part.Â
Keshav Maharaj finished with figures of 2-67, Rabada with 2-65 and Coetzee with 2-67.Â
An impressive performance by the Proteas all-round.Â
South Africa now move to 2nd on the World Test Championship rankings.
