Captain of the Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma, who has stepped down from the game’s shortest format, responded to compliments from Prime Minister Narendra Modi following Team India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory. Rohit thanked everyone on social media, acknowledging the happiness the victory had brought to the country and the support he had received.
In the summit match on Saturday in Barbados, India defeated South Africa by seven runs to win their second T20 World Cup.
PM Modi congratulated the squad by phone after India’s success. He complimented Rohit Sharma on his outstanding T20 career and leadership. Along with Virat Kohli’s noteworthy 76-run performance in the decisive game, the Prime Minister also praised the player’s overall impact on Indian cricket.
On Sunday, PM Modi had specifically addressed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in a separate post, stating: “Dear @ImRo45 You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy has given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today.”

“Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The team and I are very proud to be able to bring the cup home and are truly touched by how much happiness it has brought everyone back home.”

Apart from honouring the players, Prime Minister Modi also thanked Rahul Dravid for his influential coaching career, which came to an end with the T20 World Cup.

India is grateful to him for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are happy to see him lift the World Cup.
