Pakistan Super League (PSL) have scheduled their matches one hour later than the Indian Premier League (IPL) games. Salman Naseer, PSL CEO, made the announcement in a podcast, saying that the games will start at 8:30 PM IST, while the IPL starts at 7:30 PM IST.
The two leagues haven’t clashed with each other in any way since their inception. PSL will start on Friday, April 11 in Rawalpindi. Naseer mentioned that they are confident about having a huge fan base for the tournament, and the timing clash wouldn’t matter much.
This is the tenth season of the league, and Naseer revealed that many new things will be added to the tournament to enhance its quality. Moreover, he also spoke about the benefit of having the tournament at the same time as IPL. This allowed the franchises to pick up some of the best overseas players who went unsold in the IPL.
“It is not an ideal situation but we are confident that the PSL has its own fan base and will attract the usual eyeballs. The PSL has always produced quality competitive cricket and this year also we should see the same and cricket fans anywhere, at the end of the day, just want to see competitive, entertaining matches,” said Salman Naseer, the PSL CEO.
This upcoming PSL season is potentially going to be interesting not only because it will clash with the IPL and but also because of the relationship between some franchise members. This led to a huge issue in the previous season. However, the PCB handled it after the tournament. Speaking about that, he advised the franchise members to speak to the management rather than going public.
“Look we would think that all franchises have benefited from their association with the PSL over the years. But we also feel that instead of going public it would be best if they spoke and communicated to us directly on any issues they might have,” added Salman Naseer.
