Ahead of the IPL mega auction 2025, Punjab Kings have retained their players, however, only two uncapped players have gotten the green signal for retention as core players until the next mega auction. Shashank Singh from Chhattisgarh and Prabhsimran Singh are the lucky lads, securing their places for INR 5.5 cr and 4 cr respectively.
Despite participating in IPL since 2017, the previous IPL season was Shashank Singh’s standout season, he grabbed all the limelight for his dynamite batting, scoring 354 runs in 14 innings at a stunning strike rate of 164.65 and finished as PBKS’ highest run-getter. He drew everyone’s attention for the first time when he whacked 61 off 29 balls against a strong bowling corp of GT. Initially, PBKS picked him up in the auction for INR 20 lacs but later it was said to be a mistake as there was another player of the same name. However, the management clarified after the controversy that they had bought the right player.
On the contrary, Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings for Punjab in 2024 and had a commendable outing with 334 runs in 14 innings at 156.80, making the management trust his mettle. The young batter earned INR 60 lacs in the last edition, nevertheless, he is all set to earn seven times more in the upcoming year.
The cricket fraternity was expecting names like Jonny Bairstow (298 runs), Arshdeep Singh (19 wkts), and Sam Curran (16 wkts 270 runs) & on the retention list following their decent outing last season.
Punjab is known for chopping and changing every year in its team. With spending only INR 9.5 cr, they will have the biggest purse of INR 110.5 cr in the forthcoming mega auction with four RTMs for capped players.
