The Lahore Qalandars has confirmed former England cricketer Darren Gough will lead the franchise as head coach for its entry into the Global Super League (GSL) in Guyana, which gets underway on November 26. He is expected to lead Qalandars’ side in their first GSL campaign and seal a long-term deal with the Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Notably, Qalandars appoint Darren Gough after Aaqib Javed’s recent resignation, following eight years during which he served as head coach and cricket operations director. Javed had relinquished his role because of his recent commitment to the national selection committee.

Former England fast-bowler and decorated ODI cricketer Gough expressed his excitement about being a part of the group and said that he has always admired the Qalandars’ efforts in developing youngsters. He is excited about working with the team’s PDP, which has focused on developing skills for young cricketers who wish to have pathways toward professional cricket for years now.

‘It’s an absolute honour to join the Lahore Qalandars as head coach for the GSL,” Gough said. “Having worked with Qalandars’ development programs before, I am keen to help the team move forward, support the new talent, and hopefully etch a long-lasting chapter in Pakistan cricket.”.

Sameen Rana, who co-owns the Qalandars, says their move with Darren Gough was aimed at finding in him the experience to add balance to the commitment for more focus on player development as well as team building in general. The GSL event will feature five teams to battle for the prize out of them being Qalandars with teams that won from T20 Blast BPL as well as those in Victoria in Australia to reach the grand final showdown scheduled on December 7.

This marks a new era for the PSL champions as they seek to sustain their legacy while expanding their influence globally with the appointment of Darren Gough by the Qalandars.
