Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin gave a fantastic all-round performance in the first Test against Bangladesh as not only did he score a century in India’s first innings but also took a 6-wicket haul which massively helped the Men in Blue in bowling out Bangladesh for 234 runs while chasing the humongous target of 515 in the final innings of the match.
Thanks to this incredible all-round display from Ashwin, India won the Test comprehensively by 280 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series.
With this spectacular performance Ashwin claimed a unique Test record where he became the first-ever player at the age of 38 to score a century and take a 5-wicket haul in the same Test match.
In the same Test, Ashwin also equaled legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne’s tally for 5-wicket hauls taken in red-ball cricket with his 37th Test fifer. The 38-year-old is now only behind legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who took 67 Test five-wicket hauls in his illustrious career.
The second Test between India and Bangladesh will take place in Kanpur and is set to commence from September 27.
