Rachin Ravindra holds SL from winning with his 91 runs as the Test is halted

Sri Lanka sits in a strong position as they won the opening Test against New Zealand in Galle, even after Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten score of 91 runs on September 22.

New Zealand, chasing 275 for victory faced a challenging start and continued on to lose wickets, especially against spin bowler Prabath Jayasuriya and Romesh Mendis.

By the end of Day 4 New Zealand were 207/8, which was 68 less than their target. This put Sri Lanka in a commanding position.

Rachin Ravindra turned out to play a crucial role for New Zealand, as he secured 91 runs including nine fours and a six. Earlier that day, Ajaz Patel bowled well, which dismissed Sri Lankan lower batting lineup. Sri Lanka were all out for 309 runs.

Following a rest day on Saturday due to elections, Sri Lanka continued their innings at 237/4. Though they suffered a collapse in their batting, as their last six batters only contributed a combined score of 72 runs.
