Rahane Hits 40th First-Class Century, Rescues Leicestershire

Ajinkya Rahane has always been a great middle-order batter for India. Even after missing out on his place in the Indian team, Rahane grabbed the limelight while playing for Leicestershire. In the County match, Leicestershire is facing Glamorgan. In this match, when, Leicestershire was struggling, Rahane scored the 40th century of his first-class career and saved the team. 

Rahane’s Maiden Hundred for Leicestershire:

While missing being part of the Indian team, Ajiyanka Rahane joined county cricket. While playing for the Leicestershire, Rahane scored the 40th hundred of his Test career. While facing Glamorgan, Leicestershire was struggling after losing three consecutive wickets in just 76 runs. Standing in that position, Rahane’s hundred was a huge boost for the team. 

At the end of the third day, Rahane was unbeaten on 47 and Handscomb on 33, with Leicestershire at 144 for 3. They were trailed by 155 runs. On day 4, the duo resumed where they left.  Rahane played a knock of 102 runs in 192 deliveries with 13 boundaries and 1 over-boundary. He batted with a strike rate of 53.13. 

In this crucial time, Peter Handscomb gave him perfect assistance. The wicketkeeper-batter also scored a century still batting on 109 runs in 194 balls with 14 boundaries. His last century came against Assam in the last Ranji trophy edition. 

Leicestershire is fighting hard:

In the 92nd match of the ongoing County Championship, Leicestershire is locking horns with Glamorgan. While batting in the first innings, Leicestershire faced struggles. The batteries failed to dominate the opponent and lost consecutive wickets. Captain Lewis Hill scored 25 runs in 53 balls. Rahane and Handscomb added 42 and 46 runs. They got all out in 251 runs. 

While bowling in the first innings, Leicestershire bowlers had a hard time with the ball. After securing a few wickets early, they need to wait to dominate the opponent. Between this, Ian Holland registered a four-wicket haul. Rehan Ahmed secured another three crucial wickets. After scoring 550/9, Glamorgan declared the innings. 

In the second innings, Leicestershire lost wickets early. Rishi Patel scored 23 runs in just 44 deliveries. But Rahane and Handscombs’ century gave a big boost. Even after Rahane was dismissed, Handscomb is still batting. The Leicestershire side is leading with 13 runs.
