Rahul Dravid reduces his T 20 World Cup bonus by 2.5 crores to support equal pay for Coaches: Reports

Rahul Dravid, who is known as ‘The Wall’ has once again proven to be an honest man by giving up 2.5 Crores Rupees, which was supposed to be given him out of the total sum of 125 Crore Rupees towards winning T20 World Cup by the Indian team from the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).

Following Rohit Sharma’s side defeating South Africa in the final and winning their first tournament in 10 years, BCCI says they will offer an amount of money reaching 125 million rupees that is distributed among players/coaches who participated during the competition in form cash rewards; specifically; some 5 crore are meant for the head coach Rahul Dravid, with his staff receiving 2.5 crores each.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Dravid also wanted the board to reduce his cash reward. This is because he did not want to earn more than the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches. “Rahul also wanted to get the same amount (Rs 2.5 crore) for a bonus just like other support staff including Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), T Dilip (fielding coach) and Vikram Rathore (batting coach).” This is what an unnamed BCCI official was quoted saying in Hindustan times.”

Note that Dravid was the head coach of the Indian U19 World Cup team in 2018. Then Dravid was expected to get 50 lakh for his work, with each of his support staff receiving 20 lakhs. According to this sharing formula, each player was to earn Rs 30 lac. But of this breakdown, Dravid did not agree with forcing BCCI to revise it and ensure that everyone is rewarded equally.

A revised list of cash awards was released by the Board, with each of the support staffs receiving 25 lakhs INR, including Dravid. Dravid has been receiving praises for his selfless manner over and over again. Putting the team first even when he was a player as a batter. As a coach, Dravid’s love for people he works with never seems to fade.
