After coaching team India, Rahul Dravid is set to replace Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara will likely move on to the England team as a coach in the ECB. Rahul is more than likely to return to the Rajasthan Royals in IPL2025.
This potential return is linked to Kumar Sangakkara possibly moving to the ECB as England’s new Head Coach, following Matthew Mott’s departure from the role after two years.
Ex Head Coach Rahul Dravid to join Rajasthan Royals
Rahul Dravid is expected to return to the Rajasthan Royals as head coach. He has a history with the franchise, having played for them and served as their mentor in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
After his role as a mentor, Dravid worked with the Indian cricket team, coaching the U-19 and A teams. He then moved to the NCA, and eventually became the head coach of the senior team.
Rahul has recently finished his stint with the Indian cricket team, taking the men in blue to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Indian won the first ICC cup since 2013, when they won the Champions Trophy.
Kumar Sangakkara did not get any ECB message
Sangakkara mentioned that the ECB has not reached out to him yet. However, he did not dismiss the idea of accepting the position. Meanwhile, the ECB is seriously considering him for the role.
“Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such. I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling, and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years.” Sangakkara said.
