Raiders zeroing in on hiring Seahawks’ Klint Kubiak as head coach: Sources

All signs point to the Las Vegas Raiders hiring Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as the franchise’s next head coach, a league source told The Athletic.

The hire cannot be made official until after the Super Bowl, which Kubiak is coaching in for Seattle.

Kubiak, 38, would be joining his sixth different franchise in as many seasons. In 2021, he was promoted to Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator for the final season of Mike Zimmer’s tenure. After stints with the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, he joined the New Orleans Saints as their offensive coordinator in 2024 before taking the same role with the Seahawks last offseason.

Under Kubiak’s direction, Seattle’s offense took a marked jump. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba enjoyed a career-best season in his third year, leading the league with 1,793 receiving yards; he was a unanimous first-team All-Pro and is one of the leading contenders for the Offensive Player of the Year award. Sam Darnold, who signed a three-year deal with Seattle in March, continued to blossom, throwing for a season-high 346 yards in Sunday’s NFC-clinching win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Raiders, meanwhile, would be making Kubiak the franchise’s fifth full-time head coach since 2021. Las Vegas moved on from Pete Carroll after just one season, a league-worst 3-14 campaign that earned the Raiders the top selection in April’s draft.

The franchise has conducted interviews with former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll and Broncos passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Davis Webb, among others. GM John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady were key figures in the search process.

Las Vegas hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2002 season, and has just two playoff appearances in that span.
