Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja believes that Babar Azam still has a lot to achieve in the Test format. Babar was not able to find a spot in the Pakistan team for their 2nd and 3rd Test against England due to his abysmal form. The Men in Green would go on to win both of those matches to triumph in the series 2-1.
Babar hasn’t scored a half-century in red-ball cricket since 2022 and has seen a major drop in form in the ongoing year which has finally led to selectors questioning his place in the team.
Talking about Babar’s recent form, Ramiz feels that the former captain has to show that he has potential like legendary Viv Richards.
“I feel Babar has to achieve a lot more in Test cricket. He plays the white-ball format really well, has an average of 50-plus in both the formats (T20I and ODI)…There is so much potential in Babar Azam,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.
“Ab unko apne temperament se batana hai duniya mei ke woh ek Viv Richards hain (now he has to prove to the world with his temperament that he is Viv Richards). Bigger the contest, bigger the innings Richards used to play,” Ramiz added.
However, right now Babar’s main focus would be the upcoming white-ball series against Australia where he has been named in both of Pakistan’s ODI and T20I squads.
This will be Pakistan’s first ODI match since the 2023 ODI World Cup where the team failed to make it out of the group stages under Babar’s leadership.
