Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said Monday he expects wide receiver Davante Adams to return for the 2026 season. Adams is under contract through next year after signing a two-year deal with the team last March.
“I have no reason to believe he won’t be back,” McVay told reporters.
Adams, 33, caught 60 passes for 789 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns in 14 regular-season games during his first year with the Rams. He missed the final three weeks of the regular season after aggravating a hamstring injury in a Week 15 victory over Detroit.
The veteran receiver returned for the playoffs. He caught five passes for 72 yards in the Wild Card win over Carolina. Adams had two receptions for 24 yards in the Divisional Round victory against Chicago and caught four passes for 89 yards with a touchdown in the NFC Championship loss to Seattle.
Adams signed with Los Angeles on March 9, 2025, after the New York Jets released him. The contract is worth $44 million over two years, with $26 million guaranteed. His cap hit for 2026 is $28 million.
The deal reunited Adams with quarterback Matthew Stafford. Adams caught 52.6 percent of his targets during the regular season. Puka Nacua remains the primary receiver in the Rams offense, leading the team in targets and receiving yards.
Adams became the first player in NFL history to lead the league in touchdown receptions with three different teams. He previously accomplished the feat with Green Bay in 2020 and Las Vegas in 2022. The Rams finished 12-5 in the regular season. Stafford led the league with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns. His future beyond 2026 remains uncertain as he enters his 18th season. Stafford turns 38 in February.
McVay said the team will give Stafford time to decide whether he wants to return for another season. Adams’ value depends partly on whether Stafford returns or retires.
Adams has made six Pro Bowls during his 12-year career. Green Bay selected him in the second round of the 2014 draft. He spent eight seasons with the Packers before joining the Raiders in 2022. Adams requested a trade from Las Vegas during the 2024 season. The Raiders sent him to the Jets in October 2024 for a conditional draft pick. He caught 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns across 14 games between both teams that season.
The Rams released Cooper Kupp before the 2025 season. That move opened playing time for Adams opposite Nacua. Adams primarily worked as the red zone target while Nacua handled the majority of route volume.
Los Angeles reached the NFC Championship Game before falling to Seattle. The team holds two first-round picks in the 2026 draft. McVay signed a contract extension on Monday. General manager Les Snead also received a new deal.
Adams’ 2026 salary includes an $18 million base and a $6 million roster bonus that is fully guaranteed.
