The Los Angeles Rams announced they have re-signed offensive lineman David Quessenberry to a one-year contract. This deal prevents Quessenberry from hitting free agency this offseason as he originally joined the Rams on a one-year deal last year.
Quessenberry was a reserve lineman for the Rams, playing just 12 offensive snaps while playing primarily on special teams in 13 games in his first season in Los Angeles. This has been the case for him throughout the majority of his career since being a sixth-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in 2017.
After one year with the Texans and overcoming a bout with Lymphoma, Quessenberry signed with the Tennessee Titans where he saw his most success, starting 23 of the 33 games he appeared in and even catching a touchdown pass in 2019.
Quessenberry would then spend a year with the Buffalo Bills and two with the Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Rams prior to last season. He provides the team some depth at the tackle position behind Alaric Jackson and Warren McClendon Jr., especially with Rob Havenstein retiring and D.J. Humphries a free agent as well.
The Rams allowed just 23 sacks last season, tied for the fewest in the league as they did an excellent job in protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford on the way to his MVP season. Being strong in the trenches is always important and bringing back Quessenberry is some insurance for the Rams up front.
Sean McVay: Warren McClendon Jr. has earned right to be Rams’ starting tackle
Going into last season, Rob Havenstein was expected to be the team’s starting right tackle, but injuries limited him, allowing for Warren McClendon Jr. to get an extended look and he handled himself extremely well, allowing just one sack and three QB hits in 13 starts throughout the regular season and playoffs.
His performance undoubtedly stood out to Rams head coach Sean McVay, who said that McClendon has ‘no question’ has earned the right to be the Rams’ starting tackle next season. A fifth-round pick of the Rams in 2023, McClendon took full advantage of the opportunity afforded to him last season and now looks to be a big part of the Rams’ offensive line going forward.
McVay added that he is very proud of McClendon and that he deserves a ton of credit for the Rams’ success while also saying that he is continuing to mature and ascend and believes he did an outstanding job this season.
