Rangers recall Scott Morrow, return Connor Mackey to Hartford

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. During the festivities, the Rangers recalled defenseman Scott Morrow from Hartford, returning the previously recalled Connor Mackey to Hartford. Morrow was initially recalled for the Rangers road trip out west, but was returned following a few injuries that necessitated roster moves. Space for Morrow was created when the Rangers finally got healthy and waived Juuso Parssinen to create room for Morrow.

If you’re wondering why Morrow wasn’t called up right away instead of Mackey, it’s because of new CBA rules. New rules require a reassigned player to play one game before being recalled back to the NHL. For Morrow, he had to play one AHL game before the Rangers could recall him, so he was not available to play in the Rangers wins over St. Louis and Carolina. With Hartford playing Wednesday and Morrow playing in the game, he was eligible for recall.

Dumb rule change, in my opinion. It was meant to prevent paper transactions, which I guess I don’t understand why they were problems to begin with.
