Per Adam Schefter of all people (with Emily Kaplan and Elliotte Friedman confirming), the Panarin saga is over. The Rangers trade Artemi Panarin to the LA Kings for prospect Liam Greentree and a 3rd round pick. There is no extension for Panarin (yet). Greentree is a 20 year old winger in the OHL, he’s on pace for 90 points this year, down from 119 last season. There is nothing else coming back for Panarin.
There is no other way of putting this: This is a colossal failure by Chris Drury. To not even get a roster player, a legitimate high ceiling prospect, or a first round pick for one of your best trade assets is a failure. Plain and simple.
The Artemi Panarin tenure in New York has come to an end, either way.
More to come.
