The Rangers have traded veteran defenseman Derrick Pouliot to the Chicago Blackhawks. Pouliot has been in the AHL all season, putting up 2-26-28 in 52 games while playing top pair minutes with the Wolf Pack. Defense has been a problem for Pouliot. He was also taking top minutes away from prospects like Scott Morrow to play and develop more.
The Rangers received forward Aidan Thompson from Chicago. The 24 year old center, a 3rd round pick in 2022, has not seen his college numbers with Denver translate to the AHL yet. He has 6 goals and 15 points in 40 games this season in the AHL. This is, at worst, a dart throw at another center. It’s a fine trade given Pouliot was just a body for the organization.
This is clearly the blockbuster trade everyone has been waiting for.
