At the age of 86 years, Ratan Tata passed away late night on Wednesday. He was the chairman of the Tata Group, and led the mass for more than 20 long years. he was recently under intensive care at a hospital in Mumbai.
Tata Group gave out a statement saying, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.”
The legendary businessman was also known for his love and interest for sports, along with his support to the Indian cricketers and athletes. Many current and former Indian cricketers have been benefitted from the back-up by the Tata Group; including job opportunities, financial support, and a lot of other initiatives in order to promote sports in India.
Air India has been coming out in playing a major role in the careers of players like Mohinder Amarnath, Sanjay Manjrekar, Robin Uthappa, and VVS Laxman. Indian Airlines, which is also linked to Tata Group, has also provided opportunities for cricketers such as Javagal Srinath, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, and Mohammed Kaif.
Even BCCI chief selector and former player Ajit Agarkar had the support of Tata Steel, which showed the impact of the mass in Indian cricket.
